Each year the Graduate School at MCW has several Master's students in Bioinformatics who would like to conduct a research practicum in a biomedical laboratory. Typically, these students have completed a significant amount of course work in computer science, biology, and bioinformatics, and are seeking hands-on experience in performing bioinformatics research. The student will work in the host lab for approximately 12-15 hours per week for a full semester and successfully complete the proposed project in order to receive 3 credits. The course can be taken more than once for a total of up to 6 credits.
Any laboratory at MCW, with department chair consent, may host one or more of these students. Laboratories interested in doing so should submit a brief description (1/2 to 1 page) of the proposed project to Dr. Mingyu Liang (mliang@mcw.edu) or Dr. Daniel Beard (dbeard@mcw.edu), co-directors of the program. Acceptable projects will then be matched with student interests.
The research practicum course is part of the Bioinformatics Graduate Program jointly offered by MCW and Marquette University. The MCW component of the program is administered through the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center.
